In this part of Betting Today we'll be looking at some of the great horse racing events in Britain, Ireland and further afield. We'll start with two of the most famous national hunt festivals in the world of horse racing - Cheltenham and the Grand National.

Great Races at Ascot

Ascot Gold Cup - takes place on the third day of the five day Royal Ascot meeting in June.
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes - takes place at the end of July each year. One of the youngest Group One races to feature on the Flat racing circuit
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes - takes place on the second day of the three day Ascot Festival which runs in late September.

Great Races at Doncaster

The St Leger - run in early September each year. This is the oldest of the English Classics.

Great Races at Epsom

The Oaks - takes place in early June. It is the third of the English Classic races.
The Derby - run in early June each year, this race has become one of the leading events for thoroughbred horses in the history of horse racing.

Great Races at Goodwood

Sussex Stakes - takes place on the second day of the five-day Glorious Goodwood Meeting in late July.

Great Races at Newmarket

The July Cup - run in July each year. Considered one of the biggest sprints in Britain.
The Champion Stakes
The One Thousand Guineas - takes place in early May. Youngest of the five English Classics run during the flat season.
The Two Thousand Guineas - run in early May each year. First of the five English Classics run every season.

The Eclipse - takes place on the second day of the two-day Eclipse meeting at Sandown Park in early July.
